Growing comfortable

I had a pretty interesting revelation yesterday.

Ram has a week off so I drove him to the airport. When I was driving his car back to the city, I took the same route that my parents and I took when we first came to Montreal in December to look for an apartment. As with most cities, the most striking thing about the drive into Montreal was the skyline. For me, the skyline of a city tells me a lot. Something about the tall glass buildings and the lights really gets me excited about experiencing a city.

When we first approached downtown Montreal back in December, I was equally excited and scared. Excited because it was a brand new city, scared because unlike Toronto, here was a city that I knew absolutely nothing about, and yet I was a soon-to-be resident.

What Montreal looked like when we came in December

So when I was taking the same highway yesterday, the skyline appeared in the sunset. I started to compare this view to the view that I had when I first got to Montreal. And it wasn't scary at all. In 4 months, I've gotten to know the city and have grown comfortable with my surroundings and the new skyline.

And so, despite the occasional loneliness, homesickness, and frustrations with work, things are going pretty well. Am I growing as a person? Who knows... but one thing is certain: the city is growing on me.

Here are some random pics from the past week or so:

Katie, Monika, and I at Eduardo's - an Italian restaurant with bring your own wine

Beer sampler at 3 Brasseurs... they brew their own beer!

Some rock club... mostly French people here. In fact, everyone was French. They played "Self Esteem" by Offspring and everyone went nuts... yeye

Enjoying the French bar

Coming back from Ottawa, taking a ferry across the river
