Lessons learned
So I learned a few things today:
1. I speak French like Dikembe Mutombo speaks English - good intentions, but no one can understand what the hell I'm saying. Par example...
Me: Un panini du poulet s'il vous plait.
Cafeteria Lady (shaking head in disgust): No chicken. Only turkey.... asshole. (ok, so she didn't say asshole, but she probably thought it. Why am I not surprised.)
2. I can't do everything by myself. Hence, do not go to Ikea to buy a queen size bed, queen mattress, 2 tables, 4 chairs, and a TV stand and expect to be able to wheel it around the store in a grocery cart.
3. I've only been in Montreal for 3 weeks. As such, I should pay attention when riding a new bus route so I don't miss my stop in a strange neighborhood where all the English-speaking bus drivers have mysteriously vanished. I also learned again that my Dikembe Mutombo-influenced French was of no use in this situation. Thankfully, "Ikea" in French is "Ikea."
4. Moving sucks. Actually, I already knew this, but today just reinforced this concept.
Hopefully the move on Wednesday will be smoother than today. I'm looking forward to sleeping on my Sultan Hasselback mattress on Wednesday night.
